Biography
Kai is a Ph.D. candidate of Electronic Science and Technology at Westlake University in Deep-Sea Technology Research Center (DSTRC). His current research focuses on the intersection of fiber optic sensing and deep learning. He received B.E. from Nanjing University of Science and Technology in 2014 in Electrical Engineering and Automation and M.Sc. from Technical University of Berlin in 2018 in Electrical Engineering and Information. Before his Ph.D. study, Kai has worked for FESTO Didactic in Shanghai and Esslingen. During his master, he worked as student assistant in the Leibniz Institute for Astrophysics Potsdam (AIP) and began the research of optical fiber sensing. In his spare time, he enjoys hiking, football, and films. He has a keen interest in the history of mankind, the latest technology, and the exploration of the universe.
Research
His research interests lie in the field of bionic robotics. Combining his knowledge background in optoelectronics, he applies optical sensors to the field of sensing in flexible bionic robots. He works on simplifying the optical path of traditional fiber optic sensors, miniaturizing hardware devices for interrogation systems and designing multifunctional flexible waveguide sensors based on deep learning.
